Rajnath Singh to Visit Sri Lanka from September 8
New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will undertake a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka from September 8 to 10. During the visit, he will hold discussions with the country’s leadership on a wide range of bilateral issues.
Singh will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of External Affairs. He will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Colombo.
Defence and Maritime Cooperation in Focus
India and Sri Lanka share deep civilisational ties and a close partnership covering regional security, defence, trade, economic cooperation and people-to-people relations.
The Ministry of Defence said Singh’s visit will further strengthen the traditionally strong and friendly ties between the two countries, with particular emphasis on mutually beneficial areas including defence and maritime cooperation.
India’s Support to Sri Lanka
India provided significant assistance to Sri Lanka during its economic crisis and was among the first responders after Cyclone Ditwah in 2025.
The Ministry of Defence said the visit reflects India’s continued commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s MAHASAGAR vision.
